Lime Out is a floating taco and cocktail bar anchored in the bay in the US Virgin Islands. You eat and drink on the water, at the swim-up bar or on floating lily pads, and it’s reachable by boat only. TIME named it one of the World’s Greatest Places: Lime Out St. John in 2019 and Lime Out St. Thomas in 2026.

Lime Out has two locations in the USVI: Coral Bay on St. John, and Lindbergh Bay on the west end of St. Thomas. Both are reachable by boat only.

It depends where you’re staying. Lime Out St. John in Coral Bay is the original, open since 2019. Lime Out St. Thomas in Lindbergh Bay has more ways to get there, including cruise-friendly excursions.

Arrive at opening, 10:30am, to beat the lunch rush, or come at 2:30pm for BOGO happy hour. Lime Out St. Thomas is our newest location and is typically less crowded.

About two hours on the water. The Taco Taxi and the Salt + Lime Express both run two-hour round trips, so plan half a day including travel. There’s no time limit at Lime Out itself. Plan a full day if Lime Out is one stop on a boat charter or excursion.

Book your shuttle ahead, and bring a credit card, reef-safe sunscreen and a small towel. Pack light in a dry bag, and don’t bring anything you’d mind getting wet.

Lime Out is boat access only. On St. John, take the official Salt + Lime Express shuttle from Coral Bay. On St. Thomas, take the Taco Taxi shuttle from Emerald Beach or Turtles & Tacos, an all-inclusive trip on the Taco Tug. Many local private charters stop at Lime Out too.

The Taco Taxi is the official shuttle to Lime Out St. Thomas. It leaves from Emerald Beach at Lindbergh Bay every 15 to 30 minutes, 10am to 2:30pm. The ride is about 10 minutes and costs $30 per person.

The Salt + Lime Express is the official shuttle to Lime Out St. John, run by Salty Daze Charters. It leaves from the dirt boat ramp next to the dinghy dock in Coral Bay. It takes up to 12 guests per trip, ages 6 and up, and costs $30 per person.

Turtles & Tacos is a new all-inclusive trip to Lime Out St. Thomas on the Taco Tug, a restored 1980s US Navy lifeboat. It leaves Crown Bay Marina twice daily, 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm, with a snorkel or bar stop at Honeymoon Beach.

$30 per person for both the Salt + Lime Express on St. John and the Taco Taxi on St. Thomas. Cash tips for the captain are appreciated.

Most USVI charters will, and many include Lime Out as a stop alongside snorkeling and beaches. Check with your charter company before you book, or compare the charters listed on our site.

Taxis are hard to find in Coral Bay, so reserve a round trip in advance. Start with Owen at (340) 626-6274, based in Coral Bay. Your charter or shuttle company can suggest others.

No. Lime Out is boat access only, and it sits in a working harbor with a lot of boat traffic.

Book Turtles & Tacos from Crown Bay Marina (9am to 1pm or 2pm to 6pm), take the Taco Taxi from Emerald Beach (every 15 to 30 minutes, 10am to 2:30pm), or book a private charter.

From Crown Bay Marina: about a 5-minute land taxi plus the 10-minute Taco Taxi ride, or book the 4-hour Turtles & Tacos trip on the Taco Tug. From Havensight: about a 15-minute land taxi plus the 10-minute ride. From Charlotte Amalie: about a 10-minute land taxi plus the 10-minute ride.

Yes. The Taco Taxi runs until 2:30pm from Emerald Beach, and the Taco Tug has a 2pm departure from Crown Bay Marina. Check your all-aboard time first.

10:30am to 4:30pm at both Lime Out St. John and Lime Out St. Thomas.

Both locations are closed on Saturdays until December 19, then open daily through April.

Lime Out is seasonal. In 2026 it opens October 11 on St. John and October 18 on St. Thomas, and the season runs until mid-August.

Lime Out is closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, and open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Sometimes. We announce weather closures on our social media. Your shuttle or charter makes its own call and will contact you directly to reschedule.

Shuttles and excursions are booked and paid for separately, and food and drinks are paid at Lime Out. The exception is Turtles & Tacos, which is all-inclusive. On any other charter or excursion, check with that company about drinks before you book.

Yes, and cash. You pay on the float, and a credit card is the easiest way to pay on the water.

Gratuity isn’t included in your bill, and our staff appreciates every tip.

Not for Lime Out. It’s first come, first served with no waitlist, and guests change over often, so there’s usually space on a lily pad or at the swim-up bar. Book your shuttle, excursion or charter ahead, because walk-ups aren’t guaranteed a seat.
